Welcome to our church!
Welcome to our church!
This August the Youth Group will be going on a mission trip to New Bern North Carolina. They will be working to restore Hurricane Florence damaged houses in the area for those who cannot afford the labor. Mission work has always held a special place in my heart and over the last few years has gained a foothold in the hearts of our teens. These trips offer a lesson in humility and selflessness that is difficult to learn otherwise. Those who have joined us can testify to the fact that these trips push them out of their comfort zones, teach them selflessness, and give them the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those in need.
This year we managed to partner with an Organization that did not previously work with our age group, but has a great program and is significantly more affordable. I have worked with the Fuller Center Disaster Rebuilders before, and can attest to the effectiveness of their program. The total cost per person for the week is $220.00 which is about $150 less than last year! We have also already received a generous pledge of $50 per student, bringing each teen’s cost down to $170. We already have half a dozen Teens committed to the trip and we are hoping for more! While I am excited to share these number with you, there is still work to be done, and with COVID making fundraising near impossible we are relying on you this year more than ever. Every year when we plan this trip, I come back to Jesus’ words recorded in the book of John. Right after Jesus finishes washing his disciple’s feet, he tells them, “I have set you an example, go and do likewise.” (13:15) I want to personally invite you to be a part of this trip through your donation. Every dollar donated to the Youth Mission Trip fund goes directly towards making this trip possible. Together we can “go and do likewise.”
Bethesda Youth Group meets every Sunday 6pm-8pm. Our schedule consists of an hour of games and an hour of worship, prayer and lessons. The goal of our meeting each week is to provide a safe, comfortable atmosphere to build friendship and community between the students while encouraging and teaching them about faith.
As Christians we are called to do more than meet once a week. We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus and to seek justice, so we make serving a priority. This calling is fulfilled by the students through our summer missions trip, Chester, Pa food deliveries, 30 Hour Famine and other events.
If you’re a teen seeking an inviting community, looking to explore christianity, or want to make a difference in the world around you, the youth group at Bethesda UMC is the place to do it. Everyone is welcome, we look forward to seeing you!
